    • Allows removable clews (for adjustment, replacement, or cleaning)
    • No sewing required.
    • Inexpensive.
    • Minimal impact on quilt fabric structural integrity.

The idea here is to use the KAM snaps as both snaps (to allow easy nettle attachment) and as pseudo-rivets (to avoid sewing).

Theoretical cost for the project, assuming you had no tools, would be $15-20 for the snapper tool and some snaps, $5-10 for the grosgrain ribbon, and $6 for shock cord.

@Jellyfish: based on your experience, do you think popping the snaps directly onto the quilt would have enough strength?
I think the snaps are plenty strong for this application and am quite fond of the idea. The only obstacle I see is that some quilts may be too thick for the snap + double layer of ribbon. I haven't tested the maximum thickness that the snap can effectively penetrate, but am happy to help with a field trial. I have all sorts of scrap piled up in a chair (hahaha). This would certainly simplify the sewing and make a retrofit easy. Clever thinking.

Gosh you are so clever Leiavola that I don't know how you can stand to live with yourself. I am tempted to get out of bed and go play with my Kam snap tool. Hahaha

I like this idea, and IMHO it seems to have hefty merit. The uq isnt gerenally very heavy, so provided these kam snaps dont shred the fabric they should do fine. Missing the hammock and sitting in the uq will cause the snaps to (hopefully) just pop off. Sweet! Never seen those snappy things though, so i dont know how they operate. Keep us informed of your trials!

LOVE this idea! Hats off to you Leiavoia, also, for the whole concept of the clew suspension for under quilts. Very exciting!

Everybody who tried this: did you also notice that the clew suspension works better when having a quilt that has approximately the same width as the hammock? I tried with narrower quilts (typical width of about 43'') and had problems because the suspension kind of centers the quilt under the hammock causing my feet and head to stick out. Everything is fine when using a wide enough quilt. This effect also may happen when using the traditional suspension but I had the impression that it was more pronounced with the clew suspension as with normal suspension you have more "lift" on the sides of the quilt.

@jellyfish: how wide is your yellow quilt?

Yes, I did notice this with my Incubator. The clew may not be optimal for a Differential cut UQ that tapers from center to end. I could not get it to set right with a diagonal lay. I tried to adjust by weaving assymetric clews with no improvement. I returned to the original suspension setup. Luckily I used tape for creating the suspension tabs for testing before altering my quilt.

I am unsure if this is connected to the tapering. I suggest it is solely caused by the unsufficient width of the quilt. But maybe I am wrong. We need further testing.
