    Hi everyone,
Love this thread. I am getting ready to tackle my first UQ this summer and I'm definitely going to be trying the clew method! One question, and I apologize if this was covered already - I read through to about page 25 and didn't see anything on this - any thoughts on whether this would be a workable system for a 3/4 length uq? I'm down here in the south where it pretty rarely gets below freezing, so I was thinking of making a 3/4 length similar to the JRB Greylock 3 for better packability and weight. Would the increased length of the nettles be an issue? I'm thinking specifically about the nettles tangling or difficulty in getting the head and foot lengths of the nettles correct. I would think that I wouldn't want to make the nettles equal length, since a 3/4 quilt should be centered more towards the head end of the hammock. Thanks again for these great ideas, and jellyfish your videos are inspirational!

So I am new to hammock camping, and right off the bat I hated how my snugpak under blanket hangs, and having a hammock with bugnet covering the ridgeline it was almost impossible to get it to draw up and stay in place, never was able to get it comfortable enough to sleep a whole night without waking up cold and having to adjust. The Snugpak is an inexpensive UQ , and I am not an ultralight kinda guy so I was wondering if I could do this clew mod to it? It is much more narrow on the ends than in the middle, not sure if that would make or break the idea?

I wonder how long my cheap uq will last? Down throw from woot, 2 sided tape, ribbon and cord from Hobby Lobby.

So the paracord nettles sucked too bad, didnt hold it up to the hammock even with 1/8" shock cord adjusters. Tieing nettles to grosgrain loops and the whipping to a keyring was tedious as all get out, took me like 2hr15min to get it done (after having sewn the loops previously). About to go set it all up, ill repost with thoughts shortly

Leiavola, this works GREAT!! Few tweaks to the nettles individually o ensure it hangs right all the way around and it is ready for use!! Sweeeet!! Thank you my friend!

@eyebrows: Looks good. The reason for making the entire clew with shock cord is because it becomes self-adjusting when you do. Any little mistakes in measurements iron themselves out. I usually wrap the entire structure in one go with a single strand, leaving the two nettles on the end a bit shorter to snug up the long ends of the quilt. This assumes you have snaps on the anchors though. Otherwise you have to pass the line through each anchor and it isn't removable.

@uscbass: It works in principle with any length of quilt. The only question is whether or not you would be annoyed by having the nettles under your feet.

@Lord_Kaos: i have not tried a snugpack blanket yet. Make sure the material is thin enough to put snaps through if you intend to use snaps. Otherwise it should work just fine. You can quiltify just about anything with this method.

@krue1971: I tried something similar with duct tape. It doesn't stick very well to nylon for some reason. Great for prototyping though.

@bbikebbs, @lady di: thanks for posting! glad to see it works out.

Being a fan of the Wooki, I like this idea. It might be a good option to try on a Costco down quilt, once I figure out the material to use. Anyone know what material would work?

This is almost exactly what I did
I just used a nylon, sewed a channel in it, and then strung it up like a hammock. instead of amsteel for the continuous loop, I used bungee cord, so it's adjustable

I have to agree. My 3/4 CDT works well enough for me but the foot end nettles (16x1/32) are noticable enough that my wife doesn't like it. If I were going to make another 3/4 clews I'd probably first extend the foot end, as Tikker did with argon or stretch fabric to just past the feet, then attach clews.
