    Hammock Gear Winter Palace

Maybe I am just doing it wrong but when setting up my winter palace and closing the doors the folds to the corner tie outs seem to be very droopy. I had bought a 10ft green one then in a fit of frustration bought an 11ft camo. Both do the same thing. I am going to keep the camo one and not sure what to do with the other one though. I was going to sell it on here but I don't have enough posts to sell. But anyway, can the more experienced hangers share photos of their winter palace set up so I can try to figure out what I am doing wrong. I have played with the angle of the guylines and positions of the stakes but so far no luck on getting the crease of the doors taut. Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

I'm watching this because I was always curious to see more photos. The few on the website don't convince me. It just seemed like too much fabric to get taut and since it doesn't stretch I had even more concern. I'm not being critical of HG; I'm just wondering if you reach a point with cuben where it just gets sloppy.

Make sure you pulling the lines out at exactly 45° for starters.

This sounds very unusual and most likely could be solved with a few pics of your WP setup. The good folks here can probably spot the fix right off.

    IMG_2233.jpg side pullouts not used

IMG_2235.jpg when I use side pullouts.

    Sorry for the crappy photos.

I tried to do the corners at 45 degrees.

I am sure it's user error. I'll keep trying though. I would like to see others just to try to figure it out.

I think the line going through your pullouts up to ridgeline is pulling a bit and may be your problem. Just my guess.
It will still keep you dry and sheltered. Are you just wanting a taut pitch?

Oh my. Shug answered. I feel special (I am serious btw). I had ran the line from each ridge line end to keep the side pullouts from squishing together. I'll try it without. Or just not pull as tight. I will be using it on my AT thru starting the last week in February 2017. Part of it is trying to make sure I don't mess up and get wet. The other part is I don't want people to make fun of me. I have enough issues as it is. Lol.

    Thank y'all for the help

Here are my Tarp Tutorials that may give insight....https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...r4JzQgQ_iyB2RU

Folks are too tired to make fun on the AT. Don't get too hung up on aesthetics...it is the backwoods.
    Have fun and be patient.

If you're only looking to tighten it up some where the door flap starts, I would just try adjusting your stake location.
Once you get your RL set, start with the four stakes that will be the bottom of your doors (or the side stakes) and pull them out far enough to get that door crease tighter along with the side of your tarp tighter.
I really think it's just a matter of moving your stakes around some.

Good luck, let us know how it's going.

I am with Shug; I think the issue is the lines you have set up with your panel pull-outs. As Rekoob suggested, if you start with your 4 primary corners, and then try and address the doors and pull-outs, my guess you will have solved your woes.

It certainly takes some practice to get a nice wrinkle-free pitch, even in the friendliest of conditions. A few tries though, and you will have your system dialed and working well.

Right after I built my cuben fiber tarp with doors, I took it to a park, and pitched 4 times, back to back, between different trees, etc. After that, I think I got a good handle on what a good routine is for me.

    Enjoy the trail.
