    Top quilt for hot weather?

Got a question for you guys. I know that most everyone is thinking about how to get your insulation higher because it's winter everywhere else, but it was like 85 deg here in Florida today and it got me thinking about what folks use in summer for top quilts? Tried sleeping in the RidgeRunner last night and was stupid hot using a DIY Costco underquilt, and no topquilt.
I have been looking at silk bag liners and such and was curious as to why you use in the summer to stay comfortable. I like having something on top, kinda like Linus on Charlie Brown..As I type this I'm thinking real hard about turning ON the A/C....

    thanks
    J

In real summer use, I use nothing or a microfiber sheet - cotton holds nighttime moisture too much (which can actually be a good thing on occasion).

I don't use anything but can relate to having something on top. Argon 90 has a nice cotton feel, for me, if weight is an issue, If not a cotton sheet would do???

I'm fine with cotton sleep sack in the summer. I won't get inside, and I'll throw it off over the night. It's basically a security blanket.

Basically anything light enough to throw off is fine.

Thanks for the ideas! I was thinking about the sleeping bag liner just because they look to be so packable and light weight. Its weird cause it isn't like I haven't been camping in summer, but I am still getting used to this humidity.

I've used Cocoon Coolmax travel sheets and silk sleeping bag liners. It gives you something on top and bottom you can easily wash afterwards. I had these from my ground dwelling days. If that's your new norm I would get one. For just something on top, any old sheet would work. Cut to a size that works for you.

I am usually fine with an UQ. You can pull it off to the side if necessary.

I used one of these this summer when hiking the AT and some other warm weather trips. It was just right when I got just a little too chilled without any cover, with temps around 70ish at night. I paid substantially less for it than the current price, but you might be able to find something similar for less if interested.

In the middle of summer here in Alabama I use nothing underneath and sleep in shorts and maybe a shirt. If it does get a little cool out I use one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019S...L8L&ref=plSrch

I am still pretty inexperienced for warmer weather camping, but this early summer, I did my warmest trip...not "warm" by any standard, but was like 80 when going to bed, then low of 70 overnight.

For me, doing nothing I "felt" a tad cold with no UQ or TQ of any sort...I brought my 3/4 UQ as well as UQ protector, and ended up feeling good in my UQ protector below me...I brought a small sheet (cotton from home) and started with that early in the night, and kept my summer weight TQ nearby, and later in the night, I kinda draped that quilt over me partially, this worked perfect for me. I am a cold sleeper obviously...

If it was in the 80's at night, I probably would go with a very lightweight material on top only and would feel comfy...the UQ protector was perfect of preventing my feeling of breezy coolness from underneath.

    Good luck!

I always want some type of cover even if it's warm. I did a late June/early July on the AT with a 40* synthetic TQ and DIY UQ. while it was in the 90's in the bottom lands it got quite cool at night up on the ridges.

If I didn't have an expensive TQ I would have used a GI poncho liner, sometimes called a woobie...
