My problem with cinch buckles is that I keep threading the webbing through the buckle incorrectly. I seem to do it every other time I hang. And the worst part is that, threaded incorrectly, the buckle will hold well enough that a firm tug on the hammock won't budge it, but as soon as I sit down, I hit the ground.

My Boy Scouts find it hilarious...

    Cinch Buckle Fail - HELP

My "solution" to that was to make my brother a "bishop bag"I think that is what it is called with webbing Velcro sewed on then then stuffed in outer small bag pocket.

I have threaded them wrong multiple times already - best to leave them on it seems

I have been hanging for several years and the cinch buckle is my absolute fav.
But I, too, had my first "whoops!" moment last night WITH my cinch buckle (I hang indoors for sleeping).

I just moved into my new place and have been not quite happy with the actual placement of my hooks for hanging. So last night I went for a longer hang (adding yet another pre-drilled hole 3 inches into a very tightly poured concrete wall.) And I'll be damned if the cinch buckle didn't slowly loosen
to the point that just my butt was touching the ground. My feet and legs were up. So it wasn't THAT bad. hahaha!

So this morning, I tied a half hitch just beyond the cinch buckle. That should hold.

I read in another thread prior by a user that a half hitch would mess with the cinch buckle and could cause it to release .

Given the possibility of some either user error or other issue - it seems a backup is not a "bad idea" (although not "clearly necessary")

Seems like if you tied the half hitch a bit above the buckle you would be ok....

There is a certain - uhh - inelegance to having to do more than simply use it as is

Why did your buckle setup lose tension you think?

I'll just note that while you see a half hitch in the pictures I posted on page 1, in practice I always forget that step and have never had any issue with slipping.

I've never had an issue in the last 5 years with my cinch buckle.
I really didn't expect anything different by making the length between points longer.
So I have no idea why this happened unless it's because the one side is considerably higher due to steel girders in my new place. Maybe the tension was too much .
When I awoke, I remembered a few posts with tying the half hitch a bit above the cinch buckle. Will give it a go tonight.

if ya dont want to fuss with buckles, those triangles that you get from Warbonnet never slipped on me. Even considered buying some from them to put on a 11' Dutch. They'll sell them already on a continuous loop.

True but they are a pain to adjust if there is tension on them ( I have 6 Warbonnet hammocks and have changed them over to cinch buckles )

Also some straps are slippery and tend to slide thru the cinch buckes, I found that the straps sold by Strapworks tend to be be very slippery. Never had a problem with stiff straps. I have found that soft straps tend to get twisted in the cinch buckles and get excess wear because of it.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Well, that aside, second time was a charm - except I somehow cut my first CL too short
