I've used zip ties in a similar fashion, but I'm back to CL's through the sewn channel.

Caminante, son tus huellas el camino y nada más... - Antonio Machado
My end result after perhaps 5 hours of building and tinkering in total (much of it climbing a learning curve)
I really like the whipped end I built with that thick Amsteel - same concept as the zip tie but adds bulk
And most importantly - the cinch buckles are holding!!!
This is the second hammock I've made but the first that I used nice fabric and took my time on.
Hate to gift it to my bro now for Christmas

You are not the first person to do that.

After all the revelations about backwards rigging and such I'm trying to visualize how you were able to work the CLs from one side of the buckle to the other without taking them apart. Was there actually enough room where the "gate" (moving part) engages the outside ring to squeeze the amsteel around it??
Hahaha - yup
You have to put the gate at a diagonal then when you sort of rock it you can squeeze through one segment at a time - barely

Oh dear, I love it.
New rules for you, I learned these the hard way.
Do not work on DIY when tired.
I always hit a problem when tired.
If something feels difficult, check to be sure you are doing it correctly.
Lastly, watch out as you reach the end of your project that seems to be where the oops happens.
Thank you for sharing. You are a true DIYer.
I should have put it down an hour before and then I kept going 2 more hours
Those 2 hours were just mostly futile I swear
Lesson learned.
