VIDEO:Backpacking the Appalachian Trail: Watauga Lake

Flatbill and I go out on a planned 4 day/50 mile hike from Watauga Lake to Damascus, VA! One problem though: a historic drought and lack of water on the trail! All in all we had a great learning experience and a great overnight hike on the Appalachian Trail!

Bummer on the water taking you out of the hike but you still did more miles in two days than I could have in 4 so congrats on that. Thanks for sharing the video with us.

Wow! That's a hell of a section. We did half of it, I'm missing the southern half, from the Watauga Lake road crossing south to Damascus. My intent was to do that section last month but everything was dry and on fire. Congrats!

Nice TR. Two long tough days of hiking with heavy water carries- I cab see where that would wear you out. I could tell by the tone of your voice as the video progressed how tired you were getting.

    Thanks for sharing!

Pine Mtn is a pretty good pull. I remember that one. And amazing how low the water was in the creek at the start. I'm used to seeing the water being real close to the trail where you walk next to it on the rocks.

Another great trail report, TallPaul! Thanks for sharing! Sorry you got taken out by the dry weather. We've had some good rains the past two weeks...hopefully the springs will be in better shape this winter!
If you can't laugh at yourself don't worry about it...someone will come along to help you out!
