Winter: Will I stay warmer in hammock if I don't use tieouts?

Will I stay warmer in hammock in winter if I don't use tieouts? Will my hammock hug me closer and keep me warmer? Or this doesn't really matter? JustJeff''s tieout poll got me to wondering. I may be picking nits here, but any port in a storm when it comes to keeping me warmer on NYE.

    Any thoughts?

My perception is that it does keep me warmer not to use the tie-outs. My top quilt stays tucked in better, bottom quilt has less chance of getting air gaps, etc.

Just Jeff's poll got ME thinking about using the tie-outs in the summer heat.

This is excellent idea. Make big trouble for moose and squirrel.

You don't know the half of it!

As for the tie-outs, yes I believe leaving them off provides a slightly warmer environment; keeps everything nice and close to the body.

Yep - I think not using tie-outs in winter lets the underquilt cocoon me better. More underqulit touching my body means less heat escaping.

Interesting, I'll have to try this as well. Only thing I don't like about not using the tie out on the zipper side is that the hammock material can collapse in and touch your face depending on how you lay which is annoying.

Yeah - the Blackbird usually doesn't touch my face enough to bother me, but it is definitely close enough to catch a lot of condensation when it's really cold. I woke up with my face against the HH BULA net before...the netting didn't bother me, but I did worry about skeeters biting thru the netting all over my face.

At the last MAHHA Pan was showing me how to adjust my new Winter Nest and suggested not using the tie outs on colder nights. Seems to make sense.
