    Wool Blanket - Worth it?

I have always carried at least 1 (up to 3) wool blankets with me when I hike, camp, or go into the woods for any reason. They have fantastic insulative qualities (wet or dry) are tough and can be multi-purposed (insulation, shelter, ground pad, hammock, carry-all, etc. BUT...They are heavy and bulky. I can't seem to convince myself to leave 'em home. Opinions????

I KNOW! Hahahahaha! But yes, I do. That's my conundrum. How do you give up something so good...when it's so bad. Truth be told, I'm a strong hiker and I'm not that concerned with weight, but alas...they are so darned HEAVY. I am trying to mend my ways, but I can be so stubborn.

Well, my first came from my dad, who got his in the Navy in the '60's. However, I recently found some EXCELLENT ones on Etsy. Italian military surplus. Best I've had. Seller is called Ode to June.

Hike your own hike and hang your own hang. I like the idea of having one for winter trips with the pulk.

I'm going to guess "Old School" My grandpa always preached Three things you never go into the woods without, matches, knife and blanket, mainly wool. Took a few years to break the blanket habit. Sometimes I still think he'll tell at me. I probably still at least one old army blanket in the attic.

I do not hike with a wool blanket but mostly I base camp and day hike. I do have one for base camp and I have one in every vehicle for winter emergency use. That being said, my knees would not allow me hike with my wool blankets but I am not you and if you want to carry one, go for it!
