If I'm doing thin hems along the sides of hammocks, I just eyeball it. Usually I fold the selvedge onto itself and then again to get a smooth edge about 1/2" wide. For wider ends, I'll mark them and do the same fold over twice, moving along and pinning about a foot at the time. It was a real struggle when I first started. I thought I was going to rip my hair out.

I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Great info in this old thread! I'm making a hammock this weekend and don't want to screw it up. I'm glad someone posted about the foot pressure; I was increasing it thinking a thinner fabric needed more to "fill the gap"...totally wrong! I guess that's why the machine wouldn't feed at all when I tried to reverse stitch.

Good luck with the hammock. Easy project when you consider it’s just straight seams. The challenge is all the extra fabric you have to manage.

Rolled hems.. for 1/4” I use a rolled hem foot. Anything wider I just eyeball.

Yea I plan on eyeballing it. For aesthetics I think I'll lightly mark a straight line to follow just in case. Looking forward to trying this. Easy straight sewing like you said.
