I am also looking forward to coming up, pending better gear.

The rumor is true, Squirrel Bait and I spent a couple of nights out there listening to the coyotes yip. We found the motivation to walk out to Hare lane and found the most direct route in for the tougher option. Hare lane isn't plowed... further east is Pickrel Lake road, which is plowed up to the power lines. Park in a way that still allows plow truck to turn around. Hike power line west up and down 3 or 4 large hills to Hare lane. Turn right (north) and follow approximately 100 yards to Reynolds lane marked by old green cattle gate. Follow Reynolds lane to end. Spot carbidnite post to find footpath. Follow footpath to the north bordering river. Path comes out into open meadow area head northwest to tree line and path that crosses creek (foot bridge) and continue on path, following the smell of wood smoke and bacon until you find the group. Simple, right?

I shot an email to the Pigeon River DNR office asking if they might be able to get the road commission to plow out the end of Hare Rd. for a closer parking option. It is a long shot but who knows. Gotta get working on my top quilt and pulk. Found some nice Boggs at the resale so I will have something dry and warm for my feet.
Hoping to make a nice big batch of tamales for this one.
Dirk, I bought one of these for a pulk: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000YD6J30
It's $33 but another $13 or so for shipping. Still a nice sled for under $50. I also saw a kids sled at Home Depot the other day for under $10 as a really inexpensive option, but with less space and durability I'm sure.
Lots of threads on pulks, but in summary I just used two 5' pieces of PVC conduit, some 1/4" rope (little stretch), carabiners, and a cheap molle style belt.
I'm all excited about using this, so I hope that doesn't jinx the snow!
Thanks. Snow would be good. It is no fun dragging all that gear without it and I am a bit of an overpacker.
Wow, that was fast. Dirk, thank you for checking into that. I've got a call into Scott regarding some other details. That would be great if the Hare road spot would be available. Only issue would be if we get heavy snow that weekend and get plowed in. As stated before, carpooling is encouraged.
I'm sharing Don's photo from the weekend (thank you in advance) showing the old cabin site....makes me kind of sad seeing it gone. Good memories, but they'll be more in the next chapter of the Green Timbers Big Tree Hang.
