    Greylock Secondary Suspension

So I have a JRB Greylock and was using prussick knots with zing-it as the secondary suspension. They can really crank and I felt like they were putting too much stress at the loops of UQ and created a lot of stretch on primary suspension. I decided to try something different which ended up working well and just wanted to pass it on incase anyone wanted to try it.

I used the z-pacs lineloc 3 with loop and larks headed them onto the loops of the Greylock. For the cord, I used 1/8" shock cord, 6' per side that I just s-binered to the amsteal loop of a 11' netless hammock. You could probaby use less than 6' on the head end and a different diameter cord.

Having that second line took all of that stress off of the UQ and primary suspension. It allowed for quick adjustment while in the hammock and an easier time while getting in and out of it. Hope it helps!

I mount LineLoc 3s on grosgrain at the corners of all my DIY underquilts now as secondary suspension, and I thread them with 1/8" shock cord. You're right that it makes for very effective, very easy adjustment from inside the hammock, regardless of whether the UQ is full-length or fractional. Good tip!

Excellent, thank you. My last trip I couldn't get the prussiks to slide in the middle of the night, left a chilly spot on me. I'll definitely give this a go.

I added a small loop of shock cord where my zing it prussics were attached to quilt... so far so good.

    Like this idea as well.

Question about the new shock cord that attaches to the line locs: did you rub it through the same carabiner that is holding the prim are suspension to the hammock? Did you wrap around the carabiner or let it "float"?

I let the primary suspension sit on the whipping because it fits snug. I didn't wrap this time, just hooked the secondary with a S-biner directly to an amsteal loop because there was more slack, especially while not in the hammock.

Using the biners also seems to keep the two suspension lines seperated better, helps them stretch evenly, prevent them from crossing or getting tangled and make things easier for me when taking the uq off the hammock to pack up.

Anybody know why JRB doesn't include the secondary suspension lines on the greylock by default? Jack even admits in his own video that the Greylock has accordian problems when used without a secondary suspension. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uKRt3PaUgs

Thanks Shug, get to compare the both ways to use a secondary suspension. The prusik knot and the zip pack line locks.
