MO > Winter Hang, Bell Mountain, 7 & 8 January

So here it is, I'm proposing a Missouri winter hang on Bell Mountain the 7 & 8th of January 2017. That time of year it could turn into a "frozen butt" hang; we'll have to wait and see. If you've never been to Bell Mountain you're in for a treat! I go there once a year; just something I have to do. There are two access points; you can hike in from the North which is a bit shorter/easier but I plan on starting at the Highway A trail head. It's probably 6 miles to the top. You can complete the Bell mountain loop (total of 11.6 miles) by finishing the loop on day two. I'll post more details later on but wanted to get this posted so folks could get it on their calendar and order those new 0 degree quilts you know you want! You can google Bell Mountain Loop trail and get a lot of information. And here's a teaser picture my daughter took a few winters ago on top of the mountain.

I am in! Really looking forward to getting back out with the HF peeps. I had my first trip to Bell just a couple weeks ago and it was great. I'm sure this will be a blast (and I must say that hopefully it will be a blast of cold weather!)

I'll wait to see what the weather is like and what the schedule brings. My equipment only goes down to 30 deg.

Provided weather is within our equipment parameters and my work schedule isn't completely absurd at that point in time (everything is going sideways right now... in a sort of good way) SWMBO and I are likely in. More pics should also follow if we can do it.

Okay, I think DiyGuy may be up for this....

I know the temperature and even the hiking may be an issues for some; I hope many can make it. Average nighttime temperatures that time of year hover around 22 degrees at night. If the wind's blowing then it'll be colder. Average daytime highs in January are in the low 40's. For me it'll be zero degree quilts and this year I'm experimenting with an UQ protector to block the wind.

I hope we have snow! Then I could try my hand at melting snow for water. Actually that would be a blessing as the water sources are so far away from the top. This will be a great hang! I have a friend and fellow hanger here in town who I hope to get out for this as well. He isn't on the forums.

As much as I enjoyed the fall hang, I will have to sit this one out. My gear will not handle temperatures like that. I am jealous though!
