Looks like I can make this one! It is going to be close to a new moon, so if it is clear, it should be a great night for star gazing. I might bring my camera stuff and try out some time lapses.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.

Great news Disco! And great news about the new moon; hopefully we get a clear night!

I'm sad. I really wanna go! I think our equipment should get the wife and I out there, but the kids and dog wouldn't be comfortable, if they could even survive it. Pawning them all off on the grandparents this close to Christmas likely wouldn't be feasible after they've had them for extended periods over the "holiday break"

I am like a kid waiting on Christmas. Can't wait for this trip! I keep checking the weather forecast. Looks to be cold but dry.

I ordered an UQ kit from MakeYourGear yesterday. I hope to have it ready to try out on Friday night.

I feel the same way; I'm always looking forward to the next one. Having a hang on the calendar to look forward to helps me get through the trying times!

That forecast is for in town. It is very possible that it could be a bit colder than that up on the mountain.

I agree with loner. I always plan on the "in woods" temp being some part of 10 degree's colder than the nearest "in town" temps. The key will be blocking any wind, a good base layer, good socks, a warm hat and gloves, and then some extra layers of insulation. I like to add a down vest and then a down JC Penny puffer jacket to the base layer. On top of that, have your quilts suspension tweaked just right!

If you've never heard of them or tried them, the possum down socks from Zpacks make excellent sleeping socks. Black Rock Gear makes some of the best down hats but they're often out of inventory.

This trip I'll have my new U2ZQ under quilt protector. I mainly bought it as a windbreaker for my quilts. I've only had a chance to test it in the back yard but it made an noticeable difference.

There is a chance of snow showers Friday evening...at least according to the forecast I'm looking at. That could be interesting/fun. I have to admit that around this time each year, I long for at least one hang with snow!

I've loaned out my extra quilts so I don't have any more to loan but if you're innovative and work on the many pieces to the overall system, then we'll survive

The other lesson I've learned at Bell is to have extra layers, gloves, and hats to wear around camp!

    Looking forward to it!!
    Gideon
