    Cotton Canvas supply

    Question to RBTR

Would there be any interest from your perspective to source/create a supply of cotton canvas that would be about equal to Egyptian Sail cloth for Winter Canvas Tents and the likes
Seems this market is suffering in a compromised world based on canvas supply that meets a more general market.

I'm sure there are several people and even manufactures of winter tents that would eat up a supply of treated and non treated said canvas but in the real world of economics is it worth the time, energy, cost.

Just something that pops up over at the wintertrekking.com forum on a constant bases so thought I would just ask/toss it out there since I love what your doing in the nylon/poly Fabric world with your innovation.

4 oz cotton duck suitable for deep winter hammock socks would be cool, especially if it were available in a wide (65"+) width.

It certainly would grab my attention!

Actually, I would grab it! I'm picturing a fine winter hammock sock and an Anorak!

I was recently thinking the same thing, I wouldnt mind seeing a 4oz ripstop cotton with a nice tight weave for making tarps and/or winter tents.
    Good luck,

I have been informed of a 5oz windproof cotton being available (actually is what my Anorak is made from) for 9.50/meter CDN$ untreated but wondering if it can be stepped up from there pushing the Egyptian Sail cloth envelope

Spill the beans, bkrgi. Do you have a link to this 5oz windproof cotton? I'd be shocked if it was available in Canada.

    Cheers

Brian ....PM Bothwell Voyageur over at wintertrekking.com or email through here http://canoepaddler.me.uk/Order.php .. I suspect he gets it out of Manitoba and from a local fabric store there.

Lure of the North gets there Canvas for their Anoraks from him and I do like the canvas

Small world! I am on here too.

This is a Whelan Lean I made from this fabric for a guy in Alaska.

He wanted it untreated but otherwise there are several kinds of waterproofing that can be used. I'm a big fan of Nikwax Cottonproof as it is considerably less toxic than most of the others.
