For me it's the constant unexpected noises that keep me from sleeping. I hiked 3 miles back in the Sipsey Wilderness last weekend and was almost asleep. First unexpected noise was the loud crunching of leaves and three lights coming up the trail. It looked like a scene from a scifi movie. When the lights got closer and blinded me, it was three guys hiking it at 9PM. Once I settled down from that encounter and was just about gone, the friggin owls started their matting calls. They were spaced out just enough to almost be asleep and bam another call so loud I thought the owl was in my hammock. After they quieted down and again almost asleep, the wind would blow and the acorns would fall and hit the tarp. I finally grabbed the ear plugs and slept. It's a touch world out there.

I've wished many times I had something to help me fall asleep but this is only the first night issue. The second night I rarely have an issue from the day two hike and I'm worn out.

Lucky for me I've always had a knack for sleeping anywhere. I still remember being surprised just how well I slept the first night I was in my hammock. Once I was cozied up in my mummy bag I was out and didn't wake up until the sun was shining down and my bladder decided it was time to get up.

Some of my craziest dreams have occurred while sleeping in my BB XLC. A couple of times I have tried to move my arms or sit up in vain as my body literally felt paralyzed, fun times.

My first few nights hanging were in too short of a hammock and led to some heel pain, but now days it's usually the crazy constant sounds around here from the Marcellus drilling wells that keeps me awake at night. They can be miles away and still make so much noise at night.
