For me it's the constant unexpected noises that keep me from sleeping. I hiked 3 miles back in the Sipsey Wilderness last weekend and was almost asleep. First unexpected noise was the loud crunching of leaves and three lights coming up the trail. It looked like a scene from a scifi movie. When the lights got closer and blinded me, it was three guys hiking it at 9PM. Once I settled down from that encounter and was just about gone, the friggin owls started their matting calls. They were spaced out just enough to almost be asleep and bam another call so loud I thought the owl was in my hammock. After they quieted down and again almost asleep, the wind would blow and the acorns would fall and hit the tarp. I finally grabbed the ear plugs and slept. It's a touch world out there.
