    Interchangable Insulation Underquilt?

I have never worked with Climashield Apex before, so I don't know how durable it is or if this is possible. I have been thinking about making my own underquilt and was thinking about temperature ratings and what temperature rating would be best for an underquilt and the possibility that I might need more than one underquilt for different temperatures. But I was thinking, would it be possible to build and underquilt "sleeve" and then be able to slide in or out the right thickness of Climashield for your conditions. Then zip it up or velcro it up and hang it under your hammock? This way you don't have to build a whole new underquilt for each temperature range, just one and interchange the insulation. Just curious. Thanks.

I could see issues with getting a good cinch at the ends unless you had a way of attaching the insulation to the sleeve securely.

Climashield is more rugged than competing insulations, but not RUGGED enough to weather that kind of handling, IMO.

Plus, like MDCrab pointed out, Climashield needs to be sewn into the hem of your quilt at a minimum, and likely quilted a few times throughout.

Just finished a UQ with CS 10. Definitely needs to be secured around the perimeter or it will end up at the bottom of the shell in a rolled mess. It is very durable material and not easy to work with (depending on the size you use). I worked with it both ways. CS down on the feed dogs worked the best. It is possible to run the foot across the top but you need to compress the material with your hands and need to constantly watch for snagging on the foot. I tried a walking foot attachment but ended up using the stock foot.
I highly suggest you make the shell first then attach the CS and invert. Sew your channels and tabs to your top shell first leaving no less then an inch allowance at the edges. ..thats where you'll attach the CS. Then sew on the bottom shell.
There are a few other methods but I found this worked the best for me. You will end up stitching more but it'll end up more durable.

I did not quilt the CS , I didn't think it needed it. It held together fine and lofts beautifully
