Well, I did it.
I slept on the ground. Yes, I said I slept on the ground. Used my new HammockGear 20º Custom Burrow on my Exped Downmat XP9. Neede to see if a TQ would really do the job.
It did for sure.

Great video Shug, I have the Mini pump also and just like you showed it works best to finish inflation with breaths to achieve fullness. My first time using a TQ on the ground I froze. I think the sides would get pulled from under me as I moved around. So I just used strings and tied the sides together of my Burrow and that seemed to get me by. Thanks for taking one and sleeping on the ground.
Good stuff, Shug.
I've found a quilt on the ground can hold its own with a sleeping bag until temps get below freezing.
Lofting is only part of it. Trapping your body heat inside a zipped sleeping bag with a hood & collar baffle performs better. Rolling in a quilt can expose your neck, shoulder or back, releasing any warm air that was trapped. Obviously results may vary, especially in winter.

Excellent work. It's nice to know that the ground is there, if we need it
thank you sir
Shug Shug Shuggity Shug to the rescue with informative videos!
I never thought I would see the day Shug slept on the ground. Well that day has come and gone. Thanks for the video. What were the temps like in the tent that night?
Yeah...it takes a bit of finesse. Thankee.
I think in Winter if I need to go to ground it would be in a bag.
Sometimes we fall on it. Yes.
Just some video fodder.
Temps were about 39ºF so not really too cold.

Always a treat to see another Shug video up. Thankee sir!
A few questions: if you were forced to go to ground on a trip, what would you have underneath you? Do you normally carry a pad just in case?
Also, I have noticed the plane noises in your vids. I live just a couple blocks from a busy road and when I do my backyard hangs, the noise keeps me awake. I have resorted to ear plugs, but hate the feeling of them in my ears all night. Do you sleep through the noise no problem or use ear plugs?

I don't carry a pad other than my small thermarest sit-pad I use in my TQ footbox to complement my partial UQ. Reckon I would improvise.
The airport is a small field and less air traffic at night. Does not bother me as cars would. Sometimes at 5 or 6 AM I turn on my White Noise sound soother on my iPhone to block out the "up and going to work noise."
