In need of recomendations for a 4-5 day trip

Two friends and I had been planning to leave on a thru hike of the Foothills trail next week. However, with the current park and trail closures due to fire, it looks like we may have to come up with an alternative plan. We will be leaving from Charlotte Thursday morning and will have to be back at Charlotte Wednesday morning. So we have a total of 6 days for travel/hiking. Does anyone have any recommendations for 4-5 day hikes in NC, Eastern Tennessee, or Southern Virginia (or any other area within 5 hours of Charlotte)? We have two cars, so we will not be limited to loops, but would like to hike at least 40-50 miles. Thanks!

I think greyson highlands would be a great area and far enough north. Plenty of options an views!

Big south fork has tons to offer. With 2 cars you could do a lot.

I don't think the Linville Gorge is on fire or closed. You can contact them to see.

Thanks for the recommendations guys! I think we are going to do a section of the AT between Damascus and Dicky Gap. That way we can go through Grayson Highlands.

Starting at 301 in Catawba, Va is beautiful. Bring plenty of water. Depending on your pace etc, you may make it to Troutville and back, but it is a great 20 miles to 220 going NoBo. You crest McAfee Knob and can camp on Tinker Cliff to see a great sunset.

Seconding Grayson Highlands. One of the most spectacular areas around. There's not enough hiking within the actual Highlands for the trip you're planning, but you can extend in either direction just by following the AT. There are plenty dropoff/pickup points in that section of the trail.
