I just joined the forums and thought I should introduce myself. I live in Atlanta and have yet to sleep overnight in a hammock. In the last year I've done a couple of ultralight hiking trips with friends - the 100 Mile Wilderness and the Wind River Range. Given that I am married and have two young kids, I'm now focusing my outdoor time on local trips that are more oriented around my family. I encounter a lot of trees on the trail in Georgia, so I might as well use them.

I was first introduced the benefits of lightweight hammock backpacking by Adventure Alan's website: http://www.adventurealan.com/hammock...round-systems/

I'm in the process of putting together a simple hammock setup to try out this fall.

I've been impressed so far with the well-run forums and eagerness of the community to share ideas. Looking forward to learning much more from this community.

Thanks. I hope you like your MacCat Ultra. I just picked one up from another forum member for my first hammock tarp. I wasn't completely sold on having three guylines per side, but apparently a lot of people have been very happy with their MacCats. I'm hoping that the Ultra will allow me to share the tarp with others when I got out with my family.

Welcome to the site. You have access to plenty of family friendly hiking and camping areas in North Ga. If you have any questions, just ask. Someone will chime in with an answer pretty darn quickly.
