    Hello everybody,

I've been camping since I was little with my family (Back in the 60's). I started backpacking when I joined the C.A.P. back in Jr. High school (they call it middle school now). My first Hammock camping wasn't until the 90's when I was at a surplus store looking for cheap camping gear. I found a "jungle hammock", the old canvas bridge style with mossi net and rain fly built in. After using it I discovered it was too small to be really comfortable, and too heavy for backpacking, but I knew this was the way to camp! I ended up researching hammocks online for a biking trip down the C&O canal towpath. I found the Lawson Blue Ridge hammock. It was great! I have not done the hiking or camping I really would like over the years for one reason or the other. Over the years and probably 10 or 12 Trips using the Lawson I found it decent but something was lacking. I purchased a cheep gathered end hammock this year after deciding to start section hiking the AT again. I had my first hang in it last weekend. Found I loved using a 10x10 tarp and gathered end hammock. I have a Tribes mossi net as well. I've been all over the interwebz in the last 4 months researching hanging. Always looking for more to learn, fine tune gear, and generally just have fun with things. Thanks for the join, the knowledge, and the camaraderie.

Welcome from right down the road in Perryville! Its always good to see another local person on here. Not too long ago me and another forum member from southern MD did an overnight in Elk Neck State Park and had a great time. I have maps of the Mason Dixon Trail and would love to hike the section that goes through Cecil County sometime. If your ever interested in getting together sometime to hike or hang just let me know, I've got a bunch of great places to hang on the water here in Carpenters Point. Welcome!!!

Sorry for the confusion. I'm in Prince Frederick City pretty much smack dab in the middle of Calvert county. Looking forward to meeting a few members in upcoming hangs. I don't know if I will have time before the holidays, and I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to the cold. So might not be till spring. Thinking of a spring backcountry campout either in the SNP or maybe Jefferson/Washington National forests. Nice thing about backcountry is it is free. Just park entrance fees, no campsite fees. I'm frugal. (read cheapskate)
