    My Ridgerunner Costco Modular Underquilt

So I finally got around to making an underquilt for my Ridgerunner - I had been using a klymit insulated pad. The cost/benefit of the Costco throw was too good to pass up.
My idea was to make a full length underquilt by using two quilts overstuffed using the seam ripping method. The insulated portion is 32 inches across by 77 inches long (both dimensions are when fully lofted). To help with the sewn through baffles, I used a layer of 2.5oz apex. I used the inside out method the make the quilt. I sewed in some grosgrain to the sides before turning inside out. Of course I used cat cuts on the sides; fits nice and snug.
The reason I call it "modular" is because I used the leftover portion of the 2nd quilt to make an addon 2/3 quilt that attaches to the original with Kam Snaps. I offset the baffles/seams with the original quilt to really boost the temp rating. Haven't tried it out yet in anything colder than 50, but I can tell you it feels really warm. To make sure I got the right amount of loft from both quilts, I got my father-in-law to get in the hammock while I used clips to "dry fit" before sewing.
When it was all done I used some Nikwax down proof and tumbled dry with no heat and some tennis balls. Haven't got a total weight yet, will update when I get it.

Btw, my wife helped with most of the sewing; she's really much, much better than I.

    Wow, nicely done!

I'm just about done with my hand sewn, Costco, faux baffled UQ for my Ridgerunner. Just adding finishing touches...
Rough dimensions are 34"x70", tapering down to 30" wide at the foot end. I also added about 9 ozs of extra fill. With suspension, total weight came out to 25oz.

That sounds really warm; I look forward to pics. I was thinking about faux baffles, but I decided to go full length.

I wonder what percentage of those Costco throws are actually just left alone and how many are turning into DIY starter materials??

Good job on the quilt. In that one picture your saddle bag looks a whole lot bigger than mine on my Ridgerunner.

Very nice sewing skills of the wife. Looks really warm. Now how to convince mine to start helping me with my projects......
When the wife asks, I simply say "Shug made me do it".

Haha, I just noticed that; I think it's because in that picture the hammock is upside down.
