The weight of the whoopie should hang from the knot, not the toggle. The first is what you want. With the second option, once loaded, the toggle will bear quite a bit of force as the suspension bends over the toggle to reach the knot. When properly tied, you should be able to use something as insubstantial as a small twig to tie the MSH, because it is only there to prevent the knot spilling, not to bear the weight.

these days, instead of a toggle stick, I just use a carabiner. I can clip into that and not worry about slippage. When done, I can pull the carabiner out as easily as the stick.

I actually tried it "that way" as in the second pic and that works pretty good. I'm switching!

Is a marlin spike a slip knot pulled into the toggle?? Correct? Like I tie a truckers hitch insert toggle and try to slip the knot thus setting the toggle?

To keep the whoopie from slipping while setting up, I've been using tiny o-rings. The whoopie adjusts fine with them in place. Once it's adjusted, slide the rings up and it keeping things in place until your weight sets the whoopie "into the knot."

I set mine like the first pic. Here's some photos (back side view).

Hey johnspenn....I'm glad someone else tried the "wrong way". . I've never had one slip or damage a toggle.

I posted this before, but this is how I tie the MSH.... the line represents my strap and my finger is the toggle. Tree would be to the right. After tied, I slip the whoopie loop up the strap and around the toggle.
