I also used my enlightened equipment revolt under quilt. I attached it using four carabiners. It went on a lot easier than I expected. As I lay in it I can feel the heat on my back. I need to dial it in a little more, but initial results are promising

My best coldest combination was the exped Downmat 7 UL MW (no longer have a Downmat 9) on top combined with a rectangular DIY IQ (InterQuilt) made from a vintage down sleeping bag in the pad pocket.

I see Mass Drop has the Xtherms on a drop. I have wanted to try one of the rectangular XTherms MAX and might bite. Has anyone put the Thermarest XTherms to the test in their hammoctent?

A friend is sleeping in a regular one, content but without further benchmark to compare to.
Personally, I'm hoping the MAX becomes a success so they might make an Xlite MAX which is what I'd go for.

Is there another thread I should go to to ask questions about making or getting a tarp for my gamma?

If the CF tarp from Like isn't your thing then I would contact simplylightdesigns. I believe he does make a tarp for the Amok hammock which is similar. I would have the ridge line made to 7'6" x 11'6 wide. They are the stock tarp measurements.

I have both tarps. I much prefer Luke's tarp. That said, the sld tarp is massive, yet packs a little smaller mostly due to the difference in fabric. Cf just doesn't stuff all that well.

I'd consider a shorter Ridgeline too, but it isn't necessary and does make for a truly massive living space inside. If it was designed like Luke's with doors closing out rather than angled in, it would be palatial.

I'd consider selling the sld if interested.

While I was in a similar quandary, I used a vintage 9x12 Silnylon tarp that I have had for years. It was very serviceable for the interim. Like Jimswms, I eventually purchase Luke's custom hammocktent tarp for the Gamma UL. It was expensive, but I consider the Gamma UL my main hammock, unquestionably so for backpacking. Therefore, I could justify purchasing the hammocktent tarp, which by the way, is made by Zpacks for Luke. Actually, I've been sleeping in my Gamma UL nightly during my home construction.

I have read good things about the SLD tarp. Folks like the roominess, material, and price. If you do a search on the 90 degree hammock you will come across some threads about what folks have come up for a tarp. There is a "Ground Tarp" made by one of the top tarp/hammock vendors that folks have also used (can't think of who the vendor is at the moment). There is also the tarp for the Exped Ergo or the Amok Draumr (both 90 degree hammocks) that possibly can be substituted.

If you are new to the Gamma UL and are not totally commited, you may consider jumping on Jimswms offer for the SLD or making do with a utilitarian 9x12 tarp. But you may want to act fast because someone is certainly going to PM Jimswms on his offer.

Ugh, I don't know how to PM. Sorry. How much does the sld tarp weigh?

I currently have a 9'6"x12 tarp I put doors on. It is huge and weighs 1.8 lbs. I wondered if it would be good to be a little smaller. Thoughts?
