I made this DIY underquilt and need ideas on how to hang it.

I made this underquilt with the help of someone else's design design ( http://gear-report.com/how-to-make-a-diy-camping-hammock-underquilt-from-a-sleeping-bag ). I need help with hanging it. What kind of hardware should I use and how far does it need to sag. The way I have it in the picture, my back and bottom are touching it slightly. Will this be an issue?

tight it up more. let the quilt lift the hammock a little bit. and use shockcord if you are not using.

I put shockcord from each of the four corners to end of the hammock. Then I added a channel around both ends of the UQ, and ran shockcord through it and around my ridgeline to keep it up, and to prevent drafts. I like to use LineLoc's for my shockcord so it's adjustable.

You will only stay warm where it touches you... make sure that is all of you!
Make sure shockcord is tight enough so that it snuggs up under you.
While lying in the hammock, feel for gaps between the hammock and the UQ.

I was under the impression that there was supposed to be a gap.... I thought that if it touches you, then it weakens the insulating properties.

Any gaps will be cold spots. An underquilt that you purchase has some special construction. Probably the most important (especially for colder weather) is that it has a differential cut. What that means is that the inside of the UQ is smaller than the outside, so that when you snug it against your backside (to eliminate gaps) you don't compress the insulation. For a warm weather quilt it won't matter as much. I often take a 20 degree UQ out when the weather only goes down to 60 or so, and I intentionally make gaps so I won't sweat at night.
Try it out on a chilly night where you can bail indoors if you get too cold.
