    Hello from Switzerland

I'm originally from the US, but have been living in Switzerland for the past 10 years or so. I love the outdoors, the alps, and fly fishing. I've never been hammock camping before or slept in one for that matter, but I recently acquired an HH Deep Jungle as I'd like to put it to use on alpine fly fishing and hiking trips. I gave it a shot a few nights ago on our porch. It got down to about 40F, and I had the bubble pad and a sleeping bag and was just fine. Laying down flat and moving around properly takes a little work and getting used to but I really liked it. I've got to wait a while to put it to use in the alps, but I'll be trying it out over the winter too, I'm curious how much cold I can handle with a sleeping bag and the bubble mat/inflatable mat before looking for an underquilt.

Welcome to the forum. Switzerland is a very beautiful place. We used to go down to the Bodensee and St Gallen area when I lived in Europe.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Welcome to Hammock Forums. Man you sure live in a beautiful area. I'm sure you will love hanging in your new hammock along side those creeks. The only way to find out how low you can go is to try it in the backyard in similar conditions. The last thing you want to do is experiment in cold weather away from a bail out options. Again welcome to Hammock Forums.

Welcome from the Jersey Shore. With the pad, you're probably going to get plenty of condensation - I used a pad for two years but gave it up after a night at 22* F. There were pools of condensation beneath me that I just couldn't tolerate. I knew that if I wanted to go any colder, it wasn't going to be with a pad, so I bought my first UQ. I haven't used a pad since, and have never had any condensation since.

I personally have always practiced my setup in the backyard so that I know if I can survive the cold. I'd be very hesistant to figure out "how much cold I could handle" without a firm backout plan.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, it's a beautiful country, albeit a little more densely populated than I like. Other than that it's a great place to live.
