Yosemite questions

My family and I will be making a day trip to Yosemite around the 15th of this month (October). Some of us plan on hiking the Four Mile Trail up to Glacier Point and was wondering if the road up to it is usually still open that time of year for the ones that can't hike it. Being from Arkansas, any tips or other must-sees are appreciated.

The road is open and the trail is steep. The view is worth it though.

For additional hikes, consider the panorama trail. It starts at Glacier Point and runs around the southern end of the valley with views of Yosemite you rarely see in books or postcards. The trail merges with the JMT between Vernal & Nevada Falls so you can continue on to Little Yosemite, Half Dome or Clouds Rest depending on conditions of the party hiking etc. There is shuttle service at Glacier Point also.
