I couldn't imagine A sleeping with a dog in my hammock and B having a dirty, stinky, flea-bag touching my OQ. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

my pooch sleeps in the hammock with me usually.
lab x whippet thing, about 24lbs weight.
she loves it, and its extra warmth for me too, cant complain at that.
i did however make her her own hammock, that hangs under mine.
that was version 1.
version 2 for her is smaller with its own integrated UQ.
it works out very handy for when its wet, shes wet, or dirty etc.
dont have a picture of it on here yet though.
@Carl, if your dog is a flea bag, your doing it wrong
Thankfully, you don't have to do that if you don't want to.

I can't watch the videos right at the moment (the first rule of parenting is DON'T WAKE THE BABY!), but I will as soon as I can.
Maizy slept with me in my hammock the night before last and we did okay. I was able to quiet her from barking at those fierce, man-eating deer the several times she wanted to, and I was able to help her stay warm. But I can't roll around in my hammock like I want to with her around, and I don't want her to get my quilt dirty. (Of course, wash cloths exist for a reason, so there's that option.) The idea of going to ground is interesting enough that I may try it, although the last time I slept on the ground I could barely move the next day. Maybe with the right inflatable mattress it would work. The idea of a pet tent is also interesting and I'll look into it.
Thanks for the ideas, folks. I'm determined to find something that works for us.
EDIT: I think someone asked about her breed: She is a Certified Mongrel Dog. The vet thinks she's about half miniature schnauzer, and her ears and beard and general scruffiness agree, but she has only a few grey hairs here and there. She's mostly black and brown. She has some of the habits of a schnauzer, or maybe just terrier in general. She's tireless... she was begging to play fetch after a full day of hard hiking the other day. Super smart, super loving, mostly obedient. She was a side-of-the-road special, abandoned at about five weeks old. She's a year old now, happy, healthy, and very much a part of our family.
I take my yellow lab on most of my backpacking trips. I usually just tie her up to the tree where the foot end of my hammock is hanging. I take her a pad and a blanket and she is usually good to go. I used let her get in a couple of my cheaper hammocks and she shredded them so she is not allowed in my warbonnet!
Also, can you tell me the dimensions of the hammock that you made for her?
Cat attempted to join me in the 11-footer last weekend.
Twice.
With those razor-sharp claws, it would have been the end of that hammock.

My German shorthair has layed with me napping. But not with a quilt!

Hey all,
There have been a number of threads on this subject that I have searched and found. A thread a few weeks back was talking about things very similar. I thought I would share this product in the works with Cave Creek Hammocks & Outdoor Gear. Here is a pic of the prototype I used on a backcountry trip a few weeks ago. We have some tweaks to make and hope to have a final product out sometime soon. I have thought a lot about this dilemma since I love my dog and want to bring him along a lot, and this seems to be the best way I can think of to keep both safe and secure and out of the bugs. WHat I like is that I can get my boy into my hammock for some cuddle time at night or morning wihtout committing to sleeping with him in there. He is an Austrialian Shepherd and has thick fur so I would over heat but more importantly, he would be panting the entire time which is not fun bouncing in a hammock.

I'll save this thread to keep you all updated with progress.
Here is a link to the other thread with my description of the product. (page 4)

I also have small dogs, and I was wondering what is the minimum fabric weight y'all would recommend for the hammock to protect against their nails if (when) they do sleep in the hammock with me?
We have 2 mini Aussies that are 12 and 15 lb. each, and they already think they're people
