I'm interested in the CarCamp model.
I'm interested in the CarCamp model.
NoGround CarCamp prototype is done. I plan on shock-cording the pole together, but haven't installed that yet.
Weight for the regular version is 650g without the shock cord. Pole is 66" long, which is plenty. I was going to make it 6', but found that was too high. If people want it 6' I can make them that way.

Left hand pole is the NG CarCamp. Hammock is the Behold Bungee hammock (not my design)

Does the CarCamp pole need the truss system. Looks like you're hanging fine without it?

Gotcha. Will the CarCamp poles have a guyline hub? Also, will you be able to pitch a tarp on it?
I wasn't going to include the guyline hub, but since a structural ridge line between tree-pole or pole-pole is important I'll add it to the options. I'm trying to keep CarCamp (and Trekking) as economical as possible and while the materials for the guyline hubs aren't high, they take me a long time to make. Right now this whole NoGround project is a labor of love, and trying to help the hammocking community out with a persistent issue (few trees sometimes). If it becomes popular I doubt I can sustain the prices and keep my interest.
Yes, you can hang a tarp on the poles. Given that, I'll probably offer the 6' poles. Anyone who wants a shorter version can do so with a hacksaw and file. I have gotten so used to hanging on the Trekking version with the hammock suspension SHORT that in my test last night I didn't even consider any other way to do it. 6' gives more versatility and all my strength calculations were based on a 6' length.
A note on weight limits. I have done all my Trekking weight capacity testing with a single piece aluminum pole on one end. CarCamp regular is the same pole, just segmented with aluminum inserts between the segments. CarCamp HD is the same diameter as regular, but with double the cross section. The biggest issue on building these is getting the inserts right. If there is interest in a heavier DIY version (using conduit) I'll post directions on the DIY forum. NG Trekking is NOT a DIY project, it is WAY too complicated and I don't want the idea sullied by poor copies.

Looks like some folks across the pond also liked your idea-
