Hello and greetings from Kyiv, Ukraine.
I own a DD Mesh Hammock which is not suitable for sleeping in and weighs a hefty 600 grams. My hope is to shorten the mesh, remove the (heavy and cumbersome) tree straps and replace them with 7/64 6" Amsteel whoopie slings, thus reducing the hammock's weight by 20-40%. It could then be brought along and used as a gear sling/camping chair without the weight being too much of a burden.
As you can see in the picture, I have begun to unravel one of the cord lashings which forms the 'eye' through which the tree straps pass. My Q is: after the mesh has been shortened, what knot should I use to permanently secure the whoopie slings on to the gathered ends?
I'm certain there is a simple and elegant solution here - knot experts please help out?
Thanks!
