Anyone tried to sleep a parent and child in a single hammock?

I don't know which way I should go, i have warbonnet blackbird 1.7 single, I am not a huge guy about 5'10 170, my son is 7 years old about ~60lbs, I haven't measured him but he's typical height for a 6-7 year old. I'm looking at a buying a tarp tent or save my money and just put him the hammock with me. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate your input.

Two people, one hammock will get miserable after about twenty minutes. Very few people find it comfortable, but who knows? Maybe you and your son are more inclined to suffering than the average person.

Get him his own hammock kit and hang him above you on the same tree's (bunk bed style) so you can share one tarp and you have control of when he leaves the hammock.

I'm 5'10" 186 my eight year old son is typical size. We have fallen asleep in my Night Owl for naps but as an overnight it would not work.

For a significantly smaller child, the adult occupant with head at one end and the toddler with head at the opposite end on the same diagonal lay will work surprisingly well for some folks; my 4-year-old daughter and I have had a lot of quality hammock sleep in a full-size 11-footer with proper load capacity using this method, but your son is really probably too big for this.

You can probably find an inexpensive 9.5-foot hammock, boost him up there, and hang bunk bed style under one tarp if the weather is mild enough, or bite the bullet and get him his own hammock and a 12x12 to hang side by side with double whoopie hooks and a Dutch spreader bar.

Looks like I'll be going for the tent, thanks for all the recommendations guys. He's a scardy cat and there's no way he'd sleep in a hammock by himself but we will experiment in the basement tonight and see if we can find something that works as Kitsapcowboy said.

First of all, with total respect I would lose that scardy cat title in case he would ever hear you. Try introducing him to a hammock with his best friend. Two kids will fit in a hammock a lot easier than adult/ kid. With my godson it was his favourite stuffed animal that got him brave enough to venture into the woods without having to hold his hand. I'd place by a tree farther down the path and he'd rescue it. Now he's 24 and practically lives outdoors by himself. Let him and a friend play in the hammock till they feel safe and work your way up to a sleep out. Just my two cents.

Nope, would get uncomfortable, but we have stacked them in trees 4 high.

Never tried one but I know Clark hammocks makes hammocks purpose built for 2. Maybe another option to look into.

If they hang bunk style, make sure they don't wet the bed. Just saying!

Practice by both of you sleeping the entire night together on a couch. I'm guessing that is about how it would be.
I like the idea of stacking the hammocks.
