finally pulled the trigger on a winter insulation set...

I've been mulling a winter insulation quilt set for a while now. My 3 season set currently is an HG Burrow 40 +2oz and an HG Phoenix 40 +2oz. I live in Texas and this set has served me well into the high 30's. I have been drooling about hanging out in the winter time though and I wanted to be prepared for the lowest temps I'd reasonably expect to encounter. It's not uncommon for temps to dip into the 20s during deep winter here in north central Texas, and I also wanted to be equipped to face conditions that I might reasonably travel to during the winter...possibly some teens and maybe a zero now and then?

My mind was made up to order a Zero degree set.

TQ = HG Burrow 0 - Standard/Wide, Hunter Green 67 outer, Black Taffeta 67 inner
UQ = Warbonnet Winter Wookie XL - Olive Green

Order sent. Now I wait for the cold. Bring it on mother nature.

    *edit*
I guess this means I'll be using my BBXLC in the winter. I considered an HG Incubator 0, but went with the Wookie because a) I wanted to try one, and b) If it is truly a "no fiddle-factor" UQ then I believe that would serve me most well in the coldest temps.

I reckon the Wookie will work with most hammocks 11'+. You could prolly use it on shorter ones too, if you were prepared to prusik on hanging loops closer together.

Haha...provided we don't have a mild winter here like some are predicting. Guess I could always do a January trip up to Superior Hiking Trail to test out my soon to have 0 degree goodness...

I'd imagine you'd have to modify the head end attachment on the Wookie to accommodate sewn channel end hammocks

You are less than a days drive to any cold temp range you want.

haha yes that's true O&B...in fact I've had 3 Colorado trips this Summer! Lost Creek Wilderness, Chicago Basin, and Collegiate Peaks. SHT is high on my list of trails to visit soon. I'll have to research winter conditions though...

This is the beauty in this design. The draft can't easily get in as the extra material goes all the way to the ends of the hammock.
