Ok it might need a vid

So this is not using the soft shackle in the normal way, you slip the splice over the knot and tighten.

This is just a way to emulate a grappler hitch but removable.
Put the splice through the loop in the webbing then slip over the knot, but keep going sliding the splice down the cord and eventually it will tighten around the webbing.

Gotcha. I think I understood that part. I'm still confused on how you close the soft shackle once it's connected to the end loop of the strap. A vid would be awesome! In your opinion what is the shortest shackle I could make while still being safe. What would be the total amount I need to cut to make the shortest shackle?

Hmm not sure on the shortest depends on the method you use, cord type and length of burys, also the smaller the more fiddly they are to use.
I just use the lengths in my vid, i think you could take 4in off the original length and it would still be good.

I made mine with 100cm(39,37") 7/64th amsteel and they seem to be just the right length(7,5"), any shorter and it would trickier to make them work(but totally
possible if you don't mind fiddling). These are made with 6" burys and 1" loops, as in Tacblades video.

How is the stopper knot tied?

I've been using a double diamond knot.. looks different than what you've tied
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

That's great man! Doesn't fall off and is easier to manipulate.

    Cheers

Does the adjustable loop need a bead or anything or is it impossible to accidentally pull it through itself? I'm thinking of the beads used on the adjustable end of whoopies.

Edit: I made a couple and it doesn't seem like an issue.

**** I wish I had seen this earlier today. I just spent like 3 hours building the Grappler shackle on 2 tree straps. That **** diamond knot was fighting me the whole way!

It doesn't have to be a diamond knot you could have tied a couple overhand knots on top of each other. I feel the grappler hitch is about as simple of a quick detachable system you can be unless you go with hardware.
