I've decided to make some changes in the down we carry at LLG. First and foremost on my mind is providing you the consumer with the best value for you hard earned $$$$. That means the only the best quality materials in our quilts at the best price I can manage. I've been looking at the down issue for some time, and even solicited your input. About two months ago we switched suppliers, and now we exclusively use Downtek down. At the time there was a lot of talk about treated down clumping and the natural oils of untreated down being better (BTW, half the natural oils are washed off of down when it is processed), etc. What we discovered is that we didn't have a treated down problem as much as a problem with a specific vendor's down. You the consumer asked for treated down by an overwhelming majority, so we sourced a better product. My experience so far has shown Downtek down to not have the sticky clumpy feel out of the box that we saw before.
In addition, we are changing the fill power of the down we sell. We brought you 950 fill power down about 6 months ago, and while it is light and fluffy downy goodness, it also comes at a higher price point. After a great deal of thought we now only offer two fill powers - 800 duck and 900 goose. The 900 goose will be the same price as the 850 was, with the same amount of down in each quilt as the 850. What that gives you is a better deal on a higher FP down, and extra warmth to boot. When we run out of 850 anyone who ordered 850 will automatically get 900, and all existing orders for 950 will be filled with 950 down.
