    RidgeRunner "removable" bug net?

I did a search but didn't see anything. Anyone experiment with changing the bug net to be removable?
It's just another item that gets in the way if I'm not using it and would be real nice if if it would come off. The way the zipper is made, it almost does meet itself and like it would be a simple thing to put the kind of zipper on there that will come apart...if that exists. I think Dutch has one.

Have a look at how to convert a Hennessy to a zippered entry ie, zippered bug net.
I have the net-less RidgeRunner because I did not like the zippered net on the RR. I have a simple DIY net I am able to use when the bugs are a problem, the rest of the time I do not need a net so the netless RR is great.

Bridge hammocks I think need a wider than normal netting, RR is long and wide.

It's a love hate with not only a bug net, but in backpacking in general anything that is not usable at some moment it's nice to have it removable.

The bug net stores in the end of the hammock when you do not need it. Is this more a a weight reducing issue?

I don't see an issue with it. Mine stores just fine.

Yes and it stores there ok. But taking the hammock up and down it tends to pull out and plus it's kind of bulky. Just saying...during fall half the year (fall and winter) it could just be pulled off and reduce bulk, a few ounces, and not get in the way. A win-win situation.

That's a good point. I wonder why Brandon doesn't make them removable? I personally still use the bug net all winter as it holds in a bit of warmth.

I made this add on bugnet for my Grizz Bridge. Works real good and easy to make.
Used it on a earlier trip this year.

So you're saying there's a chance??? LOL I watched the Beaver Bay to Split Rock vid when you made it but the part about the bug net never really caught my attention. That's a good setup, no doubt. One unique thing about the bridge is that the actual material and area (sq footage maybe?) seems to be less than a gathered end...you dont have all that extra space that's not used above the head and foot area that you have in a gathered-end.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm still stuck on trying to get that last 12" of zipper area to be turned into a type of disconnect system. mmm, i'll enjoy thinking about it but not sure i can slice into my hammock yet.

I wished for a completely removable net too. But I'm thinking of just getting another RR sans bugnet.
