I can give a little history on this. I use to make Dutch Clips out of Aluminum and they had straight edges. Worked great but Hennessy users tend to pull their suspension taunt because the structural ridgeline can still give sag. It was also believed that it helped the small asym tarp that attached to the hammock suspension to not sag when a person gets in. When the suspension was pulled tight and the the Aluminum Dutch clips rotated a bit, all that stress was put on the bottom hook of the clip. When that happened we had a failure and we looked into the reasons it failed. So we had to go further into detail that there should be a 30 degree angle even if a hammock has a structural ridgeline. We also started making them out of Titanium and I changed the shape to the oval shape so it can't be pulled from corner to corner. I have never had a Ti one break and they have never rotated. That language about using a structural ridgeline and pulling the suspension tight is still important but more for the webbing and the ridgeline. It also is better on the trees. If the clip is to one side of the tree that keep the webbing straight, it continues to reduce the stress on the webbing.

Thanks for sharing those details of improvements on your clips Dutch.

I've used the various permutations of your TI clips on many types of gathered end and bridge hammocks and have good results always. I put SLRs on all GEs, DIY and cottage vendor bought ones. Your clips are a great useful item in the trees.
I think I like the sew on version about the best.

Thanks for clearing that up everyone. Also thanks to Dutch for not only your input but also striving to constantly improve upon your designs and products. I'm glad to know that the Dutch Clips ti will work with your Chameleon. The wording in the article I linked to was just a little confusing. I appreciate the clarification.

I had my straps slide down a tree (I believe overnight while I slept). Granted the tree was not straight and was at an awkward angle. But it was the only tree i could use since I was on an island.

Should I wrap the straps around the tree a couple times while using a Dutch Clip if I get into a similar situation?

I always wrap at lest twice if I have the available length. I use 8-10 foot straps.

No need to double wrap when using a Dutch clip. Only reason to double up is when you want to alleviate a little force on the tree. Or when you're using a hugger to clip to and you want to shorten the distance to the tree.

Not the seatbelt webbing but it will work with Kevlar and polypropylene webbing.

I love my Dutch clips, but for some reason I always get nervous when I use them. Dutch's explanation made me feel better.
