I can give a little history on this. I use to make Dutch Clips out of Aluminum and they had straight edges. Worked great but Hennessy users tend to pull their suspension taunt because the structural ridgeline can still give sag. It was also believed that it helped the small asym tarp that attached to the hammock suspension to not sag when a person gets in. When the suspension was pulled tight and the the Aluminum Dutch clips rotated a bit, all that stress was put on the bottom hook of the clip. When that happened we had a failure and we looked into the reasons it failed. So we had to go further into detail that there should be a 30 degree angle even if a hammock has a structural ridgeline. We also started making them out of Titanium and I changed the shape to the oval shape so it can't be pulled from corner to corner. I have never had a Ti one break and they have never rotated. That language about using a structural ridgeline and pulling the suspension tight is still important but more for the webbing and the ridgeline. It also is better on the trees. If the clip is to one side of the tree that keep the webbing straight, it continues to reduce the stress on the webbing.
