    Very clearly explained Shug! Thanks!
(Of course THAT Shug video led me to ANOTHER Shug video and then another! I never can seem to be capable of just watching ONE Shug vid! So, now, I not only have it thoroughly embedded in my mind how to CORRECTLY utilize my beloved Dutch clips, but now I'm starting to pine a bit for a Warbonnet Ridge Runner Bridge Hammock, too!)

Is there a big difference in using the clip with the opening pointing up instead of pointing down?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you... Just wrap the strap around the tree opposite of what you've been doing so the "straight" part is on whichever side of the tree you want it on. This way you're gently hooking it instead of choking it. As an example: My wife and I hang double. I arrange the straps so one hammock is on one side of the tree and the other hammock on the other side. Both foot and head ends. No choking involved. I have always done it this way, especially since Dutch showed me by wrapping a hugger around his chest saying "Always do it this way, never this way".

EDIT: Yeah it won't hold as tightly, but it sure beats landing on the ground!

Just got home after using my hammock for a month and noticed my webbing being somewhat frayed. This is an eyeopener, because setting up the Dutch Clip "wrong" gives the appearance of a "snug" setup around the tree. Dutch, thanks for the clarification.

So,I'm pretty sure I have been taking the hardware end(adutchable clip) and running around the first tree Counter Clockwise and hooking hardware on side of tree and then taking the other hardware end and going ClockWise around the second tree and hooking on with hardware on side of tree. Then getting the hang angle (hangle?) worked out with the strap cinches at the hammock. This puts straps on same side of both trees, then run tarp ridgeline the same so tarp and hammock are centered. As far as I know, there is no "up" or "down" orientation to a Dutch Clip.True or False?

There is no up or down but I usually put the opening to bottom. I have no science behind it.

I too was doing it wrong. Wrong side of the tree with the clip upside down. I did experience two failures on the same night. First the head end then the foot end.
I appreciate the clarification. The opening of the clip facing down seems worrisome. But what do I know? I guess if I knew better, I would have my own hammock business.

I'd buy another set if that free candy bar was a coffee crisp! Got one in the mail the other day and it was so hot that it melted. Just drank it right out of the wrapper.
