If RRG is the plan will it be camping at/near the car or out on the trail?

Ohio>HammOctoberFest and Happy Hang-O-Ween>Open Fall Hang Discussion

    Hello All,
Well it looks like I wont be able to get away for the whole weekend like I wanted to. So looks like I will be hanging at Mohican. If anyone else cant get to RRG but still wants to get out. I would be happy for the company.
Please forgive me for stepping on this post. just wanted to give people options if they cant get to RRG.

I am hoping for a short to medium hike in, maybe a bit longer on Saturday and a quick hike out on Sunday, but I've never been so not sure what it's like. I'm still not sure how much time I'll have Sunday to get back for 2nd shift, trying to get the day off or at least a later start worked out.

No apologies needed, the main purpose for thees monthly threads' is to have a place to talk about options to getting groups out and encourage others to come and join in whenever or wherever they can. So anyone is welcome to post any thoughts or alternate plans. And if I cant swing the time off or the RRG doesn't happen I will diffidently be there a Mohican this weekend!

I would like to try to get out somewhere this weekend. I'll try to keep an eye on what area is decided upon.

Anyone heading out from the SW Ohio area?

Just an FYI - I did a section of the Sheltowee this past weekend (Yamacraw to Flat Rock Church) and it was dry, really dry. Water sources were almost non existent. I'm not sure how it is in the Gorge. Colors weren't quite peaked either. So, I would expect there will be a lot of people out this coming weekend.

There're primitive campsites on Tunnel Ridge Rd that could accommodate decent size groups. Koomer Ridge Campground might be hard to find an open site and one suitable for a group hang.

Basic General Rules and Regulations for RRG: Overnight permits are required (available at gas stations in Slade or Gladie Visitor Center). No camping within 300' of a marked trail or road. No camping or fires within 100' of rock structures. Fires are permitted unless there's a fire ban in place - No cutting standing timber (dead or alive). Bear precautions are required.
Please see the USDA website, which is over Red River Gorge, for details on the rules.

    Luke,

I have the weekend OFF, Fri. Sat. and Sun. I am putting my gear together this week for RRG, will be south bound and down early Friday morning. I'll catch up with you guys in Columbus, PMing you shortly.

Looks like we have Luke, Bannerstone, me and one other for sure and Broken Halo sounds interested so far. We will try to post more details as they are available.

If you are not aware they had a wildfire in the Auxier Ridge area last week. Not sure how much impact it had on that area. Still not sure what area you all are thinking but, something to consider.

Well, not sure what the gameplan is here. I'll prolly head down tomorrow after work. Since it will be dark by the time I get there I'll prolly just camp somewhere along Tunnel Ridge Rd. Fri night and then head out on the trail Sat morning.

I'm not sure what the whole game plane is ether. Most of us, about 4-5, are meeting in the Columbus area around 10:45 am. tomorrow morning, carpooling down and discussing the hiking plans on the way. We have a mixed group hiking experience and ability to accommodate. I haven't been there before so I'm not the best one to say or guess at the trail or camp destination. I am sure that we can post more tomorrow after we discuss and have a better idea whats, what.
