    Tarp and figure 9

    Hi All
I am trying something new with the tie out on my tarp. This is not my idea, I read it here somewhere but I thought I'd try it out and take a few pics.

What I have done is tie a length of bungee cord to each of the tie outs and threaded a small figure 9 onto the bungee. Then I tied the guy line out at the groung and tensioned it up at the figure 9.

It seems to work very well

    Hi
Mine I have sourced from the US. But I am sure I have seen them in the Bunning store near me in Perth.
If you cannot find them I'd be happy to post some to you.

    gp,

Just so I understand: is this instead of using something like the JRB tarp tensioners?

Not sure this will help; but, "Home Depot" stores here in the US have discontinued the Figure 9's and lowered the price. Set of 2 pairs WAS US $7.95, my local store had them at US $1.76. Some folks here on HF found that their local stores goofed and had them at ONE PENNY!!! Maybe someone stocked up and has extras....?

Yes, this would be one way to do that.
With this method you have the tension on the tarp at all times supplied by the bungee and the eze of tying off supplied by the figure 9

Such a simple idea. I like it! I will use this idea on my new HH hex tarp.
    Thanks for posting.

If I were you, I'd have some sort of a non-stretch cord backup like in HC4U's tarp tensioners. This accomplishes two things - first, it sets a maximum stretch for the shockcord, so it doesn't get stretched to the point where it becomes a deadly weapon. Second, it keeps your tarp in place if the shockcord ends up breaking.

    Might be something to consider.

+1 for figure nines! This setup is cool, but I would worry about losing the guy lines if they weren't attached to the tarp. Although by that logic I should worry about losing stakes too.
