that last pic looks like a pair of cat eyes

I got a little confused somewhere. Did your first iteration (the one you spent the night in) just have an overcover on top and you underquilt thing on the bottom? Then you made a complete cover all the way around?
    Anyway, it looks **** nice!

That looks pretty good Grizz! Those fall leaves are making me a little jealous too. What is the total weight up to these days on the whole set-up?

well crap, sorry to piecemeal the posts but I had another question.
What did you end up doing on your suspension Grizz?
I recalled you put the ridgeline back in (which I see).
Did you also just use a fixed length on the triangle sides?

the more i see of this thing the more i think about making a bridge hammock... it just seems so simple to use, like crawling into a bivy tent above the ground. minimal wasted space/fabric, shape is easier to design and make quilts for.

stop it, you are going to convert me, its too soon!

Thanks. Yes, the first iteration had just the overcover on top and underquilt thing on the bottom.

I expect so. I put in a pre-order for the JRB tarp in a nice stealthy brown. If that doesn't show up soon I'll try making some "doors" to clip onto a tarp; they won't be pack-worthy doors, I've got a bunch of heavy waterproof camo to play with.

When I took this to the woods and had to hang between something other than the Same Two Trees, I found I had to fool around with getting the suspension right much longer than I thought I would, or wanted to. So I figured the poles were doing fine nice and centered now, I don't need to baby them w.r.t. compression, and so went back to a ridgeline and shorter suspension sides (something like 50" with respect to a 36" base). The ridgeline is a piece of Spyderline with SMC rings at each end. Rings to the tree are like other hammocks; I did a deal with Dutch and got a couple of his geehaws and will be playing with them at that point in the suspension. I like putting the straps onto the tree using a lark's head, because it is easy to raise and lower the suspension point.

The apex of the suspension triangle has a biner. So set-up is
    a) put the straps on the tree and hang the suspension cord (the middle section of which is the ridgeline).
    b) center the ridgeline, and tighten up the suspension.
    c) clip on the hammock
    d) put in the poles.

Hey Cannibal, you're welcome to come up, rake up a pile of these leaves, and jump in them! I've got my weekend's work cut out for me.

Not sure what the ounce count is right now. I'm trimming this rig up for the RRG hang next weekend, and will weigh to see what I'm carrying then.

exactly so. One of the things I like about my HH is the feeling of snugness (without crampedness, at least with a big enough hammock), and that's a feeling I get with the tent-like bugnet or over-cover.
