For this same reason, I prefer my top quilts that have two different weights/weaves of fabric (e.g., my LLG Jalapeno Pepper in Epsilon/Argon); even with my eyes closed or in near-complete darkness (like in the woods under my tarp in my sock on a cloudy night) I can still tell which side of the quilt is which. I've taken to using dissimilar shells on my DIY TQs as well, when possible.

Blaze orange for anything that is an outer layer, because I don't like being shot at. Darker color on inner layers, because it dries quicker.
I've definitely always gone with one color being darker for the drying-in-the-sun factor which is why, despite loving the color, that I went with dark purple on the outside of my TQ. I guess I need to do the same with my UQ too, but without matching my hammock on the inside (dang it that thing needs to get here). Sometimes I think multi-cam or other camo is great and other times I hate it...lol. I know it's such a small thing to think about, but I do like to hear people's reasoning.
Oh, and it will never take a woman 30 seconds to decide on a color combination!
I also gets colors that don't look nasty if they are.
I did the same thing with my UQ inner shell. I used red. Outer shell is gray.
