The problem with the trucker's hitch, was the mid-loop was slipping. I did try the bowline knot with a slippery half hitch and that worked. I was worried the rope would bind since lash it is so thin.

I did what you, zukiguy, and ylnfrt said. I like it because it is a no knot solution that won't pinch the lash it. It held when I pulled from both ends and doesn't loosen when I dropped the line. Thanks everyone!

Extra wraps around carabiner works and easy to remove after use. Also you can tie alpine butterfly loop to shorten ridgeline and insert a smooth toggle into knot before tightening then when done-remove toggle and knot unties easily. Good luck on your shortcut.

I have an adjustable ridgeline I use for dialing in new hammocks. I use one of Dutch's wasps so one end doesn't need a knot of any kind.

Hopefully that works well for you. If not you could always try some of the other methods.

For me, ditto on wrapping the ridgeline around a carabiner. It's temporary and can easily be done/undone in the field. That's how I shortened the ridgeline on my BB XLC from 111" to 106". Now that I have the right length figured out for me, I have ordered some amsteel to make a shorter ridgeline.

    This is what I did:

The way I described the slip knot was like this. The carabiner works well, and has less chance of binding. I was first offering a no hardware solution The slip knot in this configuration shouldn't slip and it should not tighten down too tight. I haven't tested it though. In your pictures above you have a slip knot but both free ends of the ridgeline are pulling in each direction tightening the overhand knot and it will slip.

Seems like one of the simplest knots of all would work. Just make a loop and tie a square knot.

An alpine butterfly loop is ideal for this. It is an extremely easy way to isolate a damaged piece of line out of the middle somewhere (and thus shortening your line). As a bonus, it holds well in Amsteel/lash-it.

Make the loop as large as necessary to shorten by the amount you need. Use two loops if you need to shorten it a bunch.

Really easy to tie and it comes out fairly easily when you no longer need the loop. It's also weight bearing in every direction. One of my favorite knots.

FWIW You really do not want a knot to start. Play with the length then measure and tie it or splice it after you are settled on a length you like. That is the nice thing about the biner trick. One wrap is a good change if you are fine tuning.
    YMMV

Wraps around the carbiner would be the ticket....or if you're inclined, try a sheepshank.

One day I will have one too. But the hammock sold to me only included a super long fixed ridgeline. But for now... one day.
