Klymit Hammock V, a good idea or not

    http://www.klymit.com/hammock-v-1.html
Anyone seen this or tried one?
Like most I started out with a pad in the hammock. I tried the inflatable style (Klymit Static V from my ground days) and it held condensation very well and offered little insulation (not good things in a pad). I switched to CCF and it was much better until I could afford an underquilt.
I am not sure that $140 for this pad that seems to only have shape and packability as advantages over a CCF pad is worth it. And for the cost I am sure one could find a nice synthetic underquilt to do a much better job.

Ive been waiting for a pad company to get wise and start making hammock specific pads. Smart on them. Neet to get their. 4.4 in there though.

It's expensive. Arrowhead and EE have synthetic quilts lighter and cheaper than the pad.

Interesting idea, but more than I would want to spend. Also I wonder of being on the pad like that would lead to condensation issues in really cold weather. Like skyjacker said you can a quality underquilt from arrowhead for less.

I am quite happy with my Insulated V Luxe (in my bridge hammock). But for the Hammock V to be practical I think it would need a higher R value which would probably add some weight.

I have a Klymit insulated pad for the ground, and it is nice, but this product looks like it needs some further revision. The body-mapping technology would be more effective if they had made the pad asymmetrical and reversible for right or left lay, with the line of symmetry for the channels in the pad running diagonal to the centerline of the hammock; also, i agree with the statement above -- they need to get their very effective insulation in there. As it stands, the only possible advantage you have over an underquilt is that it might pack slightly smaller. I've never seen an underquilt pop, though...

Completely agree about the R Value. 1.6 is too low. It's good to see a company innovate in the Hammock camping market. But I think they missed the mark. They should design thier own hammock with a sleeve (on a diagonal) for the insulated V Luxe. At 30 inches it provides insulation for the sides and has an R Value of 4.5.

A really smart engineer would design the system with ground sleeping options in case your adventure takes you to an environment with multiple terrains/hanging opportunities.

I would like to try one out of curiosity and boredom...I'm a gear junkie. But certainly not something I'm going to pay for. I do like the company and the way they think.

though they may actually understand the concept of diagonal lay, it seems lost on their models who are lying right down the center...
