    Benefits?

What are the benefits of becoming a Donating member. I've considered pushing the PayPal button but would first like to know the benefits offered in return. I'm more interested in answers from everyday members not vendors or mods.

There are 12 additional forums that you will have access to. The best in my opinion is the Camp Kitchen area where there are discussions on recipes, cook sets, water filtration, there are also a backpacking, paddling, clothing and non-hammock DIY sections.

The primary benefit is that you support the forum. Secondary is access to some great threads.

Also, you're helping keep this forum alive. I would donate with nothing in return. This is one of the best forums I've been apart of.

As a side note on your comment about not hearing from vendors.....we don't have anything to do with the donating member stuff....we are asked to have donating member status if we want to participate, I imagine that is one thing that keeps some vendors away. But we get no benefit from the forums. No funds are sent to us in any way, no preferential treatment, we don't buy in to have a subform, that is doled out for organization not preferential treatment again. We see no stats on membership or traffic to the site, no direct links are posted by the forum administration unless we purchase an add banner. Other than our own access to the off topic section and the warm fuzzies for supporting the forum we don't get any added benefits than any other member.

I pitched in because I would have paid much more for the information I got on hammocking had I gone through books or trial & error. So I thought it was a very fair value. In hindsight, the additional forums on backpacks, backpacking, and "other DIY" have been really interesting. Granted, it's the internet, so you can find most of that info for free somewhere else if you want to invest the time and effort, but it seems like a very reasonable model and quid pro quo here. Basically the cost of 1-2 lunches for a year of access.

Pigeon, never once even considered that line of thought! It's just that any nonprofit charity I give money to I just like to know something about it and where the money goes especially today when so many things show up on the news. I'm almost ready.

One of the reasons that I prefer the donating members sections is that I trust the info in the DM area much more than just random internet information.
