I have surplus bottles of HEET for my Alcohol stoves that does the job. Squirt a little methanol on the offending sap then rub it off with a clean rag.

Rub dirt on it?!? If you skin your own knee you rub dirt on it but, if your girl friend falls and skins her knee...? Perhaps I'm obsessive (OCDave) about my gear but, I inspect clean and repair as needed after every trip. Treat the gear well and it will treat you well. Rub dirt on it? Only while on a trip but once back home my gear gets TLC.

I have used hand sanitizer in the past for sap on jeans and my dog's fur. I would rinse it off afterwards with soap and water. Alcohol won't negatively affect the material like other chemical cleaners.

Well, I put the straps in a plastic trash bag and then stuck them in the freezer overnight. Pulled them out a little bit ago, tried scraping the sap off, but no such luck. It got in between the weave of the threads too much, and it wasn't coming off so easily. I decided to just put some rubbing alcohol on the spots of sap and buffed it out best I could with a sponge. That seemed to do the trick well enough. I should wash these off now just to get the rubbing alcohol out of there entirely.

The alcohol is volitile. It will evaporate off, no need to wash.

Too late. I just put the straps in the mesh bag and threw them in the wash. The OCD has taken over on this round. Lol

I know go joe that's it off your hands. You might could try that. I wouldn't think it has any chemicals harsh enough to harm your straps.

One more vote for alcohol. I have a 16 foot Kelty Noah's tarp I use for a kitchen/living area when campground car camping. After one trip I had a bunch of sap drips all over the tarp. I contacted Kelty customer service and their two recommendations were freezing and rubbing alcohol. The freezing didn't work for me, but the alcohol did. It took a little elbow grease, but overall was not too bad and did not adversely affect the tarp.

Alcohol works best. Peanut butter is a close second. Deep Woods Off also works, but I wouldn't get it anywhere near nylon material.

I've used orange Goo-Gone with good results. Don't know about long term affects on the nylon though. Washed it all off with soapy water once the sap was disabled, hung to dry afterwards. My straps appear to be in fine.
