    cold weather footbox question

Hello, for people using a cinched foot box, in cold weather, what do you use to block the little hole in the bottom ? Does anyone make a down piece that you could put in the hole and then cinch it down around it to block off the cold.

    Thanks, J

    Nothing. Never been an issue.

But if it was, a bandana, sock, or your solution would likely work.

I started working on something a while back, but decided it just added extra fiddle factor. Easy enough to just stuff a sock in it.

Yep. I put clean, dry socks on my feet and my sock from the day goes in there.

I tightly wrap a cord around and around to cinch the end shut on my JRB Hudson River. Works great. No gap.

I had Hammockgear construct for me just the sewn footbox section of a 40* Burrow. I slip it over the top of my 20* Burrow with snapped foot box. Overkill perhaps, but I do love my Hammockgear quilts.

I also stick socks in the gap and cinch it down. Seems to work.

I've constructed a couple types of "plugs", I won't go into what my family members nicknamed them.

Tried sewing a couple discs together, fail.
Created what amounts to a dogbone shaped pillow, works well.

    Big wool socks work well.

But on a cold windy night, didn't matter what I used.

I really need to send my Burrow back to HG for a spa job.

    Thanks for the replies,
I thought about the two disk thing with a down inner disk and something else on the outer end. I'm sure the sock works fine, I was just wondering if there was something made of down to seal it off. I may try my down camp pillow just to see how it works, thanks again.

If your feet get cold, and mine do, absolutely nothing will seal it properly. There is NO substitute for a sewn, properly insulated footbox (Hey George!), and I will never again buy a TQ rated below 40 without it. Below that, the whole open the quilt up thing is a gimmick you'll never use if you're actually using it at the appropriate temps.
