    Straps with Measuring Marks

I believe having straps with measurement marks like a ruler would be useful for providing some reference marks. That way, when I go to untie a knot like an MSH, Becket, J-bend, etc. to tweak the hang, I know where to pinch it for the new knot and it's less of a guess. It would also be a neat way to measure the circumference of a tree. Do you already offer this or could you please offer it in the future? In the interest of simplicity, I would make it yellow (or orange) with black lines spaced one inch apart with black numbers in between like this:

01|02|03|04|05|06|07|08|09|10|11|12|… and simply repeat for every foot. You could even do a metric version. Or you could take the concept further with fancier patterns.

Why not just take a Sharpie and mark lines on your existing straps? Wouldn't that work?

It probably would, but it wouldn't look as clean! And I wonder if it might just end up bleeding or fading over time. And no one has ever complimented me on my handwriting. But this is why we say “hang your own hang” here so much. A lot of it is indeed overkill or foolish!

Done! I’ll have a printable file ready shortly, with a quick print test on Monday.

The big question is, numbers or no numbers? I’m leaning towards no numbers, simply because if you cut or sew it, then you are no longer starting at 1.

My ideal strap would have 1” and 1/2” marks, with no numbers.
    Thoughts?

What about allowing enough unmarked strap to allow for a sewn loop? Then start the numbered marks.

I used yellow highlighter on my head end white dyneema straps.

Well, if it's just two kinds of alternating marks spaced a half inch apart, it seems like it would be more difficult to keep track of what's what. But there is no need for literal numbers. Just something to differentiate one inch from the next. For example, use different colors (or shapes) in a repeating pattern of 12”. Just in case this isn't so clear, imagine this:
One full width black line on a yellow backdrop followed by a centered half width black line. Then follow with that same pattern, but on an orange backdrop. Keep changing the backdrop to a high contrast color until you reach 12”. I'm fine with almost anything, but if the pattern repeats every inch, that's not quite enough.

Add the numbers. If you need sewn loops, it's no big deal to use up the first 12 inches in the loop (trimming away a few inches if needed) so that you start again at 1.

If you DIY you could sew a stitch line every inch or whatever increment you’d like.

Yes, I do think numbers would look the best and be the most useful. Precision is not really critical because stretch is probably going to prohibit that anyway. So if the loop is 3” and consumes 6”, maybe just start the pattern at 9 instead of 1. 9 thru 12 for the part of the loop that goes backwards and 1 thru 3 for the other part of the loop that goes in the direction of the rest of the strap.
