    Greetings from Central PA!

Newbie from Happy Valley -> State College PA.

Now that the four daughters have permanently or temporarily left the nest, my wife and I are back in the woods more often. I'm taking 2-3 day backpacking trips and Lady Tripalot joins me on 3-6 mile hikes.

My backpacking companion had a Hennessy hammock that he tried one trip and put back on the shelf. I borrowed it for a trip to Va this week and struggled as well, but not as much as on the ground!

I've got a lot of questions but will peruse the threads before I throw them out there.

    Happy trails, tight lines.

Welcome from the Jersey Shore. The Hennessy Exped Asym Zip was my first hammock and I used it for two years. It was a vast improvement over the ground, but I had constant issues with calf cramps. I eventually sold it and went to simple, gathered-end hammocks with independent bugnets (like the Dutch PolyD 1.4 I've used for several years). I haven't had a calf cramp since!

Still, the Hennessy is a pretty good starter hammock. I think I was a bit too tall (5'11") for the Exped to really work for me.

Welcome from the Jersey pines. You might want to try out a simple Dutch hammock like SS suggested or even a bare bones Freebird from Dream hammocks, both would be good starter hammocks .Good luck.

Hey Mike, Welcome to the Forums. You'll learn a ton of info here among the friendly people around the fire. Have fun.

Have a Hennessey Explorer xl and a number of gathered end jobs and DIYs, a Dutch 11', AHE 11' etc.
There's a new WBRR here too.

    Enjoy yourself, Dana

PS I live about a half hour east of you in the beautiful Penns Valley. I'm not far south of Millheim so pretty much your neighbor. There's room here to hang if you want to try something other than
    you own gear.
