    Mid September trip, 2-3 night

    Hey all!

I recently started planning a 2-3 night backpacking trip for mid September. I'm looking at possibly heading north a little, as I live in N AL where we've been having 96 deg days! Thinking of maybe heading up to East TN, but in sketchy to do so due to no hammock camping being allowed in the Smokies. We did Savage Gulf earlier this year and loved it, but I'm wanting some new scenery and new trails.

Do any of you have any recommendations? Doesn't have to be East TN, that's just what came to mind. Just looking to get away and see some beautiful views! Thanks for any ideas ahead of time.

I hang in the Smokies all the time, so not sure why you have the impression it's not allowed. Ideas other than the Smokies and Savage Gulf? Walls of Jericho. Big South Fork. Cumberland Trail. Citico River Wilderness. Slickrock Creek Wilderness. Shining Rock Wilderness. Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness (can include Virgin Falls).

If you've never been to the Cohutta Wilderness in NW GA, that's a fairly nearby option for you. It's starting to cool off a little in these parts, but you want a little warmth there because odds are you'll get wet on many of the trails due to the stream and river crossings. Good luck wherever you decide to go!

There's also the Fiery Gizzard trail real close to the Savage Gulf.
